Data Lines & Connectivity
High Speed Lines for Business Data
Data connectivity is an essential business function. It can be used in a number of different ways from a simple Internet connection to multi-site access for a company network. Data connections can now also be used for voice traffic too.
High speed connectivity is a critical tool for the majority of organisations, who depend on first class internet access for email, voice calls, network access and a range of other business functions. However, the cost of this connectivity must be affordable.
The cost of installing and using high-speed data-only lines has dropped dramatically in recent years. The technology is now much more affordable allowing it to provide a solid platform for companies
with mixed communications, extremely high data or video streaming requirements.
Data Connectivity Explained
- Broadband (e.g. ADSL or FttC) – uses a standard analogue telephone line, and is the cheapest and most popular data connectivity type. It provides a good connection speed, which can vary depending on the contention ratio. Broadband services offer a basic Service Level Agreement (SLA).
- Ethernet First Mile – is delivered over copper, and provides a guaranteed speed of up to 40MB via an uncontended service. It offers a high level SLA but is more expensive.
- Leased Lines – provide a dedicated and uncontended service over fibre with speeds of between 10MB and 1GB. Bandwidth is flexible. Leased lines provide the highest grade service and a high level SLA and therefore carry a higher cost.
- Private Circuits – are dedicated lines for companies with multi-geographic locations. They create a virtual circuit for the company, and have global reach.
